What use is that though. Rather have a folding Stanley

It is a knife, it has many uses. Some people drive electric cars, some Diesel. I will say though that the folding Stanley knives I have handled are clunky, chunky things with less than smooth operation.

Heavier pellets for a pre-charged airgun and lighter pellets for a spring powered airgun to test them for legal limit. The definitive work is Gerald Cardew's "Trigger to Target". Still copies about too I think, I know his son still sells them.

A WW2 German bayonet I found in a junk shop. I looked up the markings, it goes on a Mauser rifle, and this is the NCO length; the private soldiers' bayonets were longer, being more likely to be needed..and the officers' ones were short, being just for show!
It is quite battered but takes a very fine edge, I use it for chopping vegetables

It has lovely balance and heft. This next one belongs to me and is part of my small collection, it was designed for one reason and you would never be supplied with it by me or the person whose name is on it as it has no purpose in civilian life:

Beautifully made and real quality fittings with perfect balance, some of Gary's knives are being carried in Active Service today. Next up a couple of knives I carry daily, the Zero Tolerance is a carbon scale liner lock knife and I am careful when going off piste to leave it in the car. Interestingly the blade is made from a powdered sintered steel and holds a razor edge for a long time, it is also feather light. View attachment 197888

The Spyderco has taken some hammer and is a very practical everyday knife again very lightweight. It is a carbon steel blade and sharpens easily.

They both have pocket clips which I now prefer and they are easily swapped between blade up/blade down or Left/Right configuration. If I have the Spyderco on me I am not too fussed about where I take it. It is after all a UK legal carry knife.

I like the Zero Tolerance knives and have been looking at a 562Ti but just can’t justify the costs now as I have no need for quality knife for every date use but it doesn’t stop me wanting.

Blade steel and grind really makes a difference to the quality of the knife. My leatherman Charge Ti comes with a 154cm (stainless steel not length) blade and it holds an sharp edge even after a lot of abuse, it is also easy to restore the edge when needed.
My cousins, uncle has recently started out in knife making and still experimenting with grinds and steels. He has been raving about the s30v for blade quality so this may be the upgrade for my Leatherman next as they sell the blades separate.

I'm sure that most of us 'middle aged' men do,....comes from our dad's & grandparents days. Shame that that's been lost, like with many other types of hand tools and skills, younger generation are far removed from them.

Yes and I remember getting told off at school because I DIDN'T bring my knife into class..we all had knives, all the time, and stabbings were unheard-of.

I generally have either my leatherman wave or a CRKT m16 tanto point folder. I also have the larger m16 rescue knife, that goes in my buoyancy aid when kayaking and generally lives in the truck as, surprisingly, a rescue tool

Zee Germans used to have a longer bayonet for the mauser rifles, during ww1. It had a horrible serrated back to the blade, the butcher bayonet it was called. When the Americans joined the war and were using winchester shotguns in trench raids, the germans complained it was unacceptable, but the Americans responded that their bayonets were every bit as vicious.

I've found this thread quite revealing & interesting.
I have a beautifully made ( $70 Canadian 1989)in Japan , Browning folding pen knife total length is 75 mm opened it has burr walnut scales is razor sharp. I've carried it long enough for the chrome on the body to have worn off to show brass or phosphor bronze cheeks
Unfortunately it is a locking blade knife , what hacks me off is a locking folding Stanley has the same length of razor sharp blade , a bigger useable handle & that's legal ?

Can anyone point me to the actual home office rules & regulations for knives ?

It is exactly the same as for a firearm licence. So, the great deep thinking ones in the Scottish parliament made Airgun licensing a requirement in Scotland. The big success story in Scotland the last couple of years has been Shotgun ownership. As it is the same for shotguns as airguns we now have more shotgun certificate holders in Scotland than ever before, Firearm Licenses are up too. You might as well get a 12 Iron if you are going to be needing a Certificate, you get your airgun license to run concurrently.

The same happened here years ago. They made airguns licencable, so why bother with an air rifle if you can have a .22lr for the same effort.

The lock is part of the spine spring 3 mm or so long that is tucked back in the body , front end of the lock mechanism is barely in front of the hinge pin

The poorly educated people - now make knives from freezing water in a mould with a small percentage of household bleach to kill DNA evidence. After the stabbing they just throw it down and all the evidence melts away.

You just would not take any notice of a person with a crash helmet on - carrying an insulated food carrier - late at night. You would think he was delivering takeaways. Beware he maybe an assassin...

It’s the “pointed article” part that is used to get the convictions because its quite easy to make it fit. Screw driver in your pocket in Asda without a genuine reason? charged. Butter knife in your glove box without a reason? charged. Think I remember someone with a swiss army knife going through the courts because of a cork screw on his swiss army knife even though the blade length was legal. So its immaterial of your behaviour, its the fact you possess a pointed article or bladed item without a reasonable excuse.

The reason was they were never fired into line by her, no boundaries, rules or structure, do whatever you like. They all wound up being expelled from school, for assaulting either the staff or other kids, wound up on drugs and in and out of prison. But no it was always someone elses fault her kids were trouble.

Banning anything simply doesn't work. If it did there would be no drugs for sale on nearly every street corner in Western Europe. The law abiding follow the rules, the criminals simply don't care and do what they like.

I don’t even think it’s about education really. Just looking at the stabbing demographics in London, they are mostly gang, drug related dorks that want to get rich quick with little effort and then blag on social media with all their bling, or you get “dissed” for looking at someone the wrong way.
