That's what I do when I want kindling, but it's no good when you want to recycle the wood for other uses.I just cut around the nails before I burn the pallets! nails come out with the ash!

No doubt that's the way to go in a commercial setup, but somewhat overkill for my needs! Anyway, I've been getting a lot of oversized pallets (3.6m long) and they need to be denailed when they are unloaded onto the ground from the trailer.the best way is a bandsaw

And that's why I've never bothered recycling pallets.I used to have one of those and was not impressed when denailing pallets. It might be okay for a handful of nails in some trim, but not when you have several hundred nails to remove. It wasn't much quicker than a claw hammer and wrecking bar.
The only place you can buy the air locker is the USA

Only exception are sandstone crates. Usually decent roughsawn hardwood timber.
Rescuing cheap pine seems a waste of my time.
Filled a van up with solid oak flooring last week. Wasn't even glued down or nailed. Will be making thresholds out of it for a good few years.
Those bandsaws are what my mates uses - just cuts the nails not the wood.the best way is a bandsaw

I get vast quantities of pallet wood. My mate runs a pallet repair/recycling business.A lot of pallets, particularly from my source are a really beautiful roughsawn hardwood. Almost like cedar. Some of it is crap...I don't even take them anymore
I use pallets wood reasonably often for "rustic" projects....people still seem to love it.
I gave up denailing long ago, I snip them off almost flush with a pair of knipex mini bolts cutters, I feel the nail heads on the face are more authentic than a bunch of rusty nail holes.

Loads of different varieties. Some of it smells like camphor. Some of the wood is so tough my Rage 2 really struggles and it almost burns it's way through rather than cutting.
sounds like it needs a new blade?
What's the end product to justify such an investment? Wood to remake pallets, firewood, biomass, trendy furniture or summat else? What about Robo-Bandsaw ?

My mate's business has 2 automatic bandsaws - not robot ones obviously. They are just as quick. He salvages the boards and sell them to other pallet companies. He also makes new pallets from them with salvaged blocks. He was flat out for quite some time selling around 2000 refurb pallets a week or more but been quiet for the last few months. What's the end product to justify such an investment? Wood to remake pallets, firewood, biomass, trendy furniture or summat else?
