Pneumatic controls

I want to change a turning target system in the club from electrical to pneumatic operation, the exposures will be 10 minutes , 20 seconds and 10 seconds , probabily a bit longer to allow for the turning. What i was planning to use was a large double acting cylinder, a 4/2 dcv , but has anyone any idea how to vary the time ? Would i have to use a plc and a solinoid controlled dcv ?

Festo and Smc definitely sell timer units that are purely pnuematic ,can be sourced through rs components as well,not sure how accurate they are though as we use them for timed cleaning of vessels etc ,

You can get electrical timers that can do short pulses over long periods have a look http://www.schneider-electric.co.uk...elays/timers-counters-and-control-relays.page.

Ten you would need five way valves, power supply etc

Can a solinoid on a directional control valve take holding a valve open for as long as ten minutes though ? Would it not burn out ?

We have them at work on auto tune transmitters and they stay in one position for hours

There is one here that goes up to ten minutes but could be a bit steep at £400

There's always low tech options for timing, like the 555 timers. Cheap and simple.

Have a look at Audon we use a lot of their PLC/HMI's at work, good value for money.

Once upon a time the device you need was made by Dick Cross, but I haven't seen any of his kit in years

These are simple wee modules and cheap. Made in the UK! The designer/owner is a really nice helpful guy.

They are pretty simple to program too.
