I'm very nervous about using heat. I don't know what thread lock agent has been used and the item to be removed is 1/4" away from a lens and camera sensor...

It sounds like a small screw to me? I doubt they will have used particularly strong thread lock during assembly so surely with the right driver it'll come out?
More details please but as RTB says, a bit of heat with a soldering iron might soften it up enough.
most threadlock is made to stop vibration etc loosening the screw/bolt and should crack at the correct torque to allow removal, saying this though seems to me some is more like permanent fixture glue so can understand your trepidation. Arther
