Plug in dimmers

I've just ordered one to control dimming a standing lamp in the house and may get one for the anglepoise in the shed which could come in handy for adjusting light when welding.
Are they any good/safe?

it says make any lamp dimmable its not the case . it will dim halogen bulbs but possibly not led bulbs some of them are dimmable and some aren't theres a minimum wattage they will work on as well led generaly need a trailing edge dimmer just try it and see. it will either work or it wont
