Please recommend a rechargeable Work Light

Having just been stung buying two 20 watt rechargeable COB work lights on eBay both of which are faulty I'm looking for a reliable source of working ones. These use twin 18650 batteries.

OK the seller is accepting the return but it's a pain as I've bought the 18650's specifically for them.

eBay is awash with identical items (twin COBs yellow case) from other sellers but I'm loath to repeat the mistake that I've obviously made already.

Anyone had a good version from a seller that they can recommend?

don’t know about the seller, I just get the cheapest on eBay each time. Normally about a fiver. They are copies of sealey ones, or sealey are these rebadged! Whatever.

they’re cheap, usb rechargeable, magnetic, adjustable and small. I use them for all sorts. Have 2/3 on the go and a couple of spares. They last well but I trash them before they break. Dropped one in a bilge last week :/

2nd screwfix bought the i think 30w verson was £22 on offer from 30 doing some work in nextdoors very dark loft 2 settings the 2nd setting that was still bright lasted for 3 hours and still was working

It seems that I've been maligning the seller. These lights DO work but won't accept standard 18650 cells with flat tops, they need button pips on to to make contact with the battery connector.

As I said in a message to the seller it would be nice to say so in his advert.

Trouble is the different top styles of 18650 cells aren't always detailed in adverts so it's hard to know what you are buying so (for instance) the genuine Panasonic ones that I bought are flat topped so don't work in this application.

. . .I can see a mod coming on if I can find my conductive glue !

Further research shows that button topped cells are 'protected' and flat topped ones aren't. Protected from overcharging I suppose?

I'd solder the holder rather than the battery - lithium cells can bring down aeroplanes apparently as effectively as an Ak-Ak gun !

I am going to throw Welzh into the mix, by far the best usb rechargeable I have ever owned . Bought three at Lidi when they were £10 each a few years ago and they have outlasted anything I have ever had in the way of lamps. If they come up again I will grab some more. I guess it depends on what you need it to do. I light that uses the same batteries as your cordless tools is always a good shout.

I've got some Snap On ones and they are all excellent, a couple are ones that I bought second hand on here and replaced the batteries. I also have a couple of puck lights and a head torch which are USB C charge, really bright. They all have really strong magnets, I've been up the road on test drives and got back and see a light shining underneath

I don't think I would buy any rechargeable lamp now unless it had the usb port, the grief of all those old plug in charger types cause with the multitude of different ends is a nightmare. I now have the leccy sockets in the cave with the usb socket built in and try and avoid anything like this that wont charge directly off them

Ideally USB C so I don't have to have 3 goes plugging it in

Sealey. The bigger and more magnetic, the better.
I have 3 led360g lights and a floodlight. The newer smd wand type are even better, although not as robust.
The smaller sealey are pretty weak, though.

Only 3? Pray, tell what magic you deploy to get it down to so few tries.

Nothing useful to add I'm afraid. As a DIYer I get by with whatever Lidl are selling in the Magical Middle Aisle of Mystery and haven't been disappointed yet. Mine die of mechanical damage through carelessness, not component failure.

Lidl rechargeable are good, though the magnets aren't very strong. Long time between charges.
Bought this from the local motor factors the other day. Monster magnet. Very very bright. States 20hrs run time but uses AAs, not a problem as I use rechargeables.
