Please recommend a Quick Release Grease Nipple Fitting

I've just done the first round of greasing my new to me JCB 3CX and all was well apart from one nipple blocked (replaced) and four that are sufficiently recessed that getting the standard coupler to release was practically impossible as it can't be canted over at a suitable angle to release. Ended up prying it off with a screwdriver

Ebay has loads of couplers with a trigger release at under a tenner but are they any use - the triggers look flimsy bent tin.

NB this beast has 70 (yes SEVENTY) grease nipples !

Hi, Can you remove the nipple and replace with a pipe to a more conveniently placed nipple location?

Colin, two are in the pivots for the hydraulic cylinder for the extradig so the sliding bit would sheer off a tube, and the other two are deeply recessed to save the nipple as they will frequently be shoved into the ground.

I have a couple of these, well made but there is a bit of a technic to all of them. The don't work on all nipples for some reason and that seems to be the case for all of them. I didn't buy from these guys but it the same unit.

I would absolutely recommend a battery grease gun, the best performance and value is the M18 Milwaukee. My lad has one and where he works it's cut the greasing time down from 1/2-3/4 day to an hour or two. He doesn't run a quick release coupler and has no issues but something worth noting is if you are doing that much greasing the couplers wear out pretty quick. The Milwaukee are unusual in that they run metric fittings.

could you go over to button fittings like CAT use on tracks , just an option if theres space.

The other option you have is to slacken the jaw on the coupling when greasing those fittings, I've seen people fighting grease guns who were completely unaware that they would slaken the grip.

Looking at that fitting, the collet jaws are obviously machined (which is what I want) Many have nasty looking thin bent ones that don't look as thought they last long.

Yes it's the Milwaukee M18 battery gun that I have. Over two full 400 ml cartridges squirted into the JCB today - obviously not been done in a while by the previous owner

We have 4 or 5 of those on guns, apart from a few nipples they can't do they're brilliant and you'll never go back. I have a short steel tube with a standard connecter on one end and a nipple on the other to get the odd one that coupler is too bulky for.

Standard 3 jaw alemite fittings are the best you can get. Everyone else uses 4 jaws but the 3 jaws grip better but release easier. Plus will fit everywhere which the above g couplers won't as they are fatter.

Did you check the thread? Most grease couplers seem to be be BSP but the Milwaukee is M10 from memory.

I'm fairly sure the nipple end of the hose is 1/8" NPT but some were apparently shipped with M10 x 1. I decided that it didn't matter if it turns out to be the wrong thread as I have all the kit and materials to make a simple adaptor.

I have that one it is the mutts nuts only thing it dont fit into the gap of a few of my nipples so I now have 2 grease guns! well about 8 or 9 actually!

My lad's is definitely M10x1 and from everything I've read all the M18 grease guns are like that which is weird given they are American

If you have a needle nozzle they work absolutely fine by pressing them Into the end of a zerk fitting (grease nipple).

Something I had to do regularly on aircraft because the locking end simply wouldn't fit or no wiggle to release them.
