Please help with novice course info

Hello
Hope I'm not going over old threads, posts but I'm getting desperate I can't find anything to teach me mig welding.
I live in Rothwell, northants. I am looking for a course locally if possible but also I could do one in Hertfordshire if there was one. I just want to take a course that teaches me the basics, the practical and theory behind it. I'm not after recognised qualifications and it's just for diy old car repairs.

Cheers for the reply. I will take a look at the link now. Yes I am definately after the hands on approach, but I want to understand the fundamentals of a good weld before I practice.

MIG welding is really not that difficult. Repairing rotten cars though is far harder, and not really something you can be taught. I would suggest getting hold of the most suitable MIG set you can find (copper windings, and wire feed pulse tend to help with car welding), and then practice, practice, practice, and more practice.

Basically I am only going to be welding box sections on to old Land Rover chassis and pilossibly bulkhead repairs, all straight and largely unseen welds.

Failing that there are lots of good videos on youtube which deal with the basics of MIG welding. When you know what you are supposed to be doing, it's a matter of practice until you can do it. The better the MIG set you have the easier it is to use and the easier to learn.

Sounds like strength will be more important than aesthetics.

Best way to learn is to get a set and practice, that's all a course will do, stick you in a booth with a set and some scrap, look on YouTube, chucke2009 is a great guy with lots of learning tips!

I have picked a good bit from his videos on YouTube, and have learned a lot just playing with my welder.
