Please educate me on epoxy primer.

I've decided my beetle needs to be bare metaled and resprayed.I high build primed it before and 2 pack painted the top coat but a lot needs redoing.
My plan is to strip it bit by bit, coating it with aerosol primer for basic protection against flash rusting, then when a panel is done wipe/sand the primer off and epoxy prime it.Then filler work, followed by 2 pack high build then 2pack colour, either solid or base followed by clear.
Now, how workable is the epoxy?
If I should scrape it or spill a bit of paint striper on it(while working on it) , can it be flashed over? Its going to take a while to do and I've read that epoxy is virtually bullet proof, can I just DA over it with something like a 180 disc before high build or will it need more epoxy?
Any other tips?

spraying it with aerosol primer wont do much good
its well porous best clean it back then epoxy coat 1st its less porous

Wow that was quick.
This is only a very temp coating, if I go out in the evening for an hour and strip half a panel I won't want/have time to prep and paint it.Its only to protect it from any damp in the air, better than nothing.

Epoxy can be overcoated no problem but it will need to be rekeyed first, if using an aerosol primer this should be removed first as it won't bond, basically aerosol primer is crap I'm afraid.

I quite often only get half an hour in the garage at a time so I can understand your problem.

Rather than put a temorary coat of cheap primer on your half stripped panel you could just wipe it over with some phosphating solution. I use "phos kleen B" on the following link because I have some. Although "Bor 8" looks to be the one intended for the job.

This stuff can be painted straight on top of clean steel and is the dogs as is all their other products.
