Which is the best way to clean carbon and sludge out of a plastic manifold are there any dos and donts regarding products to use and ways of going about it if anyone could advise it would be much appreciated.
Would for instance caustic soda be safe to use on one of these

Used to do it all the time on m zafira, and I still do on my mondeo, squirt it in, let it work a bit, then wash it out, I do it a few times and it gets it alot cleaner, take off and clean the egr too. Am assuming it's a diesel

I was going to suggest selling it on !
I had a diesel 1.9 16v and it was sxxx!

How bad is it? A petrol shouldn't be that bad it needs cleaning.

get rid, sludge and dirt in in inlet of a petrol is not a good sign, diesel it's normal, petrol shouldn't have it

Its common on Opel/Vauxhall engines- leaky CCV and EGR valve mixing soot from exhaust into the intake makes a tough grease to clean without active/aggressive solvents !
