Plasma upgrade time?

Mr Chunkolini sir, if you can wait until next week or so (I'm off knocking trees down at the mo) I'll try and do some side by side cuts with my two plasmas, if thats any use for you.

I've always bought tips etc. on ebay, you get a pack of 20 for less than a fiver (or they were the last time I bought some)


met a new car parts supplier bloke, he;s just started up, great for van/truck bits... he does workshop tools, drill bits, grinder blades too... I asked him about plasma tips and he hadn't sold any before but said he;d get back to me... came back a few days later with a catalog... plenty to pick from, all different materials lengths etc... but they were £7 per tip (instead of 25p ish) so I didn't bother

anyone know if more expensive tips are worth the cost ?

Never tried them but like I say won't buy French. Are Gys not another Chinese welder in a branded wrapper anyway?

Nope, they're 100% in house manufactured by themselves. They do have a manufacturing plant in china but it's their factory and only certain machines are made there.

I'm in the market for a plasma cutter and think one with a built in commpressor may be the way to go, how do you think the gys 35kf compares to the gce gladius same sort of price, any big differance in quality, performance back up etc ?

Miles ahead, even though the GCE gladius 40 is a good machine it just doesn't offer the same expertise behind it as GYS does.. GCE are a gas equipment company who have added a plasma to their range whereas the GYS is made by an out and out welding and plasma manufacturer.

Thanks I've realy narrowed the field now although I seem to have doubled my budget since I started looking. The only other contender on my list is the weldability plasma 50k 10mm cut , no pilot arc but it runs of a 13 amp plug witch means I could use it anywhere . Do you know if this machine is any good or not and could I use the gys on 13 amp at lower settings if needed ?

are you sure yours is setup right if it's not doing a good job of cutting thin stuff ? - it should have plenty of power for that ?


mine was never great, until a mate who had more practice used it... new (different) tip in, adjusted amps and air pressure... cut the exact same stuff I was cutting and it came out perfect... like it was just cut by a cnc plasma table

I hadn't had the plasma cutter very long then, and didn't pay much attention to the tips, they all looked the same to me!

I've been getting cheap tips on ebay, thinking if they're cheap then they're easily disposable

I'll try to find a link later on when Im back in work but... I think maybe the first tips I had were either the wrong ones, or just plain rubbish

Sold ! To be honest I thought the gys looked better the fact I can use 13 amp if needed seals the deal. I'll be putting in an order for one this week.
