Plasma filtration

I have recently bought a Hypertherm Powermax 30 plasma cutter, Can anyone recomend a decent inline filter that will remove water and oil? Hypertherm do sell their own at about £150, which appears to fit directly to the back of the machine, and looks very neat. If these filter systems are so important why are they not supplied with the machine in the first place. After just paying out a whole lot of cash the last thing I want to do is reduce the life of the machine by using unclean air. Hope some advice is available guys? Mick

They do have a filter inside the the unit.
A bit of extra filtration wouldn't be a bad thing, i'm sure you can get filters for something around £30 from places like machine mart.

Well I don't have the joy of owning a Hypertherm, I'vegot an Eastwood Versa Cut. You really want two water trap units, the cheap ones will be fine (filter regs) - one at the back of the machine for final dewatering /filtering and one on the outlet of the compressor tank. I'm assuming that you're connecting via a hose straight to a compressor rather than an extensive hard piped compressed air distribution network.

Hi...my RTech plasma has a small one on the machine and I'vejust added a bigger one ..a Clarke make from Machine Mart £18.00 ...to the output of the compressor. When I drain them, very little water comes out but they must be helping :-))

At work we have a air dryer, works using desiccant, once saturated with moisture it switches to the standby and puts steam through the heating coil to regenerate the catalyst the result perfectly dry clean air, you can buy small ones from machine mart that refrigerate the air

Thanks guys, Gordon Stephenson a long standing member on here put me onto one in Aldi, and just went and picked one up...£19.99, looks like it should do the job even though its designed for air tools and it looks like one side is for oil supply for the tools, I guess I can just run it dry? Not had a proper look yet as apparantly Sunday is a not a work day...they don't understand us at all! Any further advice always welcome! Mick

I have just spoken to Mick, To explain that the Aldi filter-reg/Oiler are two stand alone units bolted together with an 'O' ring seal between, Easily separated and used individually, even the ports are all tapped so it is just a matter of swapping fittings around,

Just reading this thread and not a compressor expert, I have a 3hp 50ltr compressor I just bought, should I be using a water trap plugged into one of the outputs, then the airline, then the relevant air tool?

i have one on the compressor tank and use another on the end of the hose with quick conector and then just couple of meter tails out to air tools or spraygun . no chance of build up of moisture along the line

No matter what, its always a good idea to have a water sep mounted on the compressor

Together with the build in sep on my hypertherm it works great

The other question I wanted to ask about my compressor is the two outputs are uni hi flow which seem. To be more expensive and harder to find ie air lines, can I actually unscrew them and replace them with a more standard plug in output, or is there no point ?
