It is very rare I do any hand cutting now but they are awesome machines, especially for me as 99.9% of my work is Alu or Stainless..

I had only used the plasma for thick materials a hand full of times, its spent most of its life cutting 1mm steel for roses, I've had this one time before which was air pressure, 55psi works great. When swapping out consumables I usually just change the tip and electrode. Which is what I did before this post but with no effect.. Today I changed the shroud and little swirl ring which visually look fine but solved my issue. I've taken a fancy to a new r tech unit which I'm going to treat myself to since it's my birthday next weekend

The PT31 type torch when I used one on my Cut40 CNC set-up was very temperamental to consumables, if changing consumable I would find the major differences would be the shroud and the nozzle, then electrode then the swirl ring had least effect. You could change the swirl direction depending on which way you put it in but all the different ones I got the ring was consistant.

The nozzles varied greatly as did the shroud, the hole in the shroud could be a mm in diameter difference as the side steps in the nozzle could also be, so the amount of air going through the jet hole could vary as most of it went past the nozzle as cooling air.

But if you are cutting at an angle like that I would look to a worn hole or partially blocked hole and if the electrode is warn back in the centre to also change that.

Yep first pic don't seem to do it justice. It's close to 45 degree cut and a right mess. The two white parts I've changed in the picture made a huge difference to cut quality

Looks like a swirl ring, possibly worn and not giving a consistent swirl to the plasma gas.
