Plasma Cutter Help please

Hi i have been using a plasma cutter at work recently and would like one to aid in restoring my many projects VW's and Landys mostly. I have been looking on Ebay and machine mart and have found this one http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/plasma-king.

Is it any good for car body pannels...

A good little machine yes. Traditional transformer based set aswell, not Inverter, so better longer term reliability.

Next question - can you do a better deal than Machine Mart? given they have a VAT-free promotion coming up?

Can shave a bit off their normal price & used to be able to compete with the "Vat free" promotions...until the buggers increased their wholesale prices without moving MM's prices
It's not all about price anyway, go into MM & ask for a "Swirl-Ring Assembly" and they'll think you were from another planet! Stevie boy ere will just turn around & pick one out of a parts bin

Is it contact start or does it have a pilot arc to start cutting on painted surfaces ?

Pilot Arc. Heavy little sods (33Kg.) compared to Inverters & not as high a cutting capacity but, as I said, better longer term reliability being transformer based.
