Plant ring hitch size

I am trying to remember what the pin used to look like on a brother in laws HGV 2 (wagon & drag) from the 80's.

I think it was a 2" ish pin in an auto drop holder that you could just reverse hard into to trigger it.

Just cant remember if it was a tight fit or not.

I think your right. I guess my memory of what it looked like is a bit iffy.

Only have an old 165 now that I use to power the log saw, splitter & occasionally the 15kW pto genny.

That first one looks well wrong.

Is that a bolt being used as a pin?

Looks far too small for the hole.

The first one is indeed very wrong.
You should not have two clevises together like that because if you go over undulating ground (such as over the brow of a hill or down a dip) the pin is limiting the movement available and so takes a huge amount of strain. And yes, it is a thin bolt with a washer preventing it from dropping down through the holes.

VBG http://www.vbg.se/int/products/kopplingar/ are the usual ones for hgv trailers and yes they are a tight fit,the pin has a ball section in the middle and they are activated by the trailer tripping the mechanism, you set the the top mechanism up with a little trip lever you can have an an air activated ones, as the trailer eye enters the coupling it it automatically drops the pin and locks it into place.
We used to use them on the skip trailers they use 40 50 or 57mm pins for various loads we used to use 57 mm for 20 odd tons and only the correct eye will work with the correct coupling.

Yes, it is an orangey color - which matches the wheel rims, engine/box/chassis etc of a mid 70's DB 995.

Ah, you are thinking of the earlier implematic range, not the later Selectomatic which became norm.
