Place(s) to visit between Stoke and Heathrow ?

Later in the week I'm picking up my son from Heathrow.
Due to distance from home in Stoke-on-Trent and amount of driving for one day (last year I spent 10 hours driving there and back when he flew from Gatwick !) plus early flight arrival I'm going down the day before and have booked a hotel for the night.
Route down can be either M40 or M1 so anywhere inbetween and don't mind detour of, say, up to 20 miles either side of motorways.
Any suggestions of places to visit on the way down to the hotel ? I know there is Gaydon motor museum & RAF museum. Duxford and Brooklands too far from journey route down.

Gaydon motor museum & RAF museum.

The London RAF museum is excellent and well worth a visit, there's a lot to see so best done when you have a good few hours to soak it all in.

Pretty sure that's where I got to sit in a spitfire!

Bletchley Park Museum, just outside Milton Keynes, where the German Enigma codes were broken. Don't forget the co-sited National Radio Centre. Not far from the M1, and about half an hour from the M40.

Cosford...Ive been there maybe 5 or 6 times and still spend hours seeing stuff i never noticed the last visit...love that place, including the airshows
