Have had one in this house , which is 15 years old .
It is pretty air tight , the piv unit failed did we notice- no.
After repair I couldn't see any difference.
Talking to tame building surveyor he did say that the trickle vents in the windows were probably just as good .(Scottish building regs).
I have looked at heat recovery which will probably be part of my strategy when I go heat pump.
I’ve installed a couple of them, in my Mums house (20’s single skin bungalow) she thinks it makes a big difference, in mine (50’s cavity wall which I stupidly had filled - hence the PIV) it’s negligible and better trickle ventilation made a bigger difference,
as above.
I put MVHR in when we built our extension. Previously with 5 of us in the house the windows were covered in condensation and the bathroom grew mould for fun. Now, all lovely and dry. Didn't have to have trickle vents in the new windows - let's face it buying triple glazed sliding doors and then having to cut vent holes in the top is a bit daft!
Well worth the upgrade to MVHR if you have access to put ducts in.
Yep, and that's the building regs making you do it, so MVHR is a no brainer to me.
I was quoted a crazy sum by a recommended company, so I got the gear from https://www.bpcventilation.com and installed it myself, think it was under 2K for 5 bed 2 bath large detached house.
