Pillar Drill

I bought an Axminster bench mounted pillar drill, mentioned in the today I acquired thread, anyway I was going to have to drive from Devon to Kent to pick it up as the OP wouldn't courier it, looking for any kind of advice, or help on getting it picked up bare ( no pallet) as I may still not be fit enough, and also a death in the family, to drive the distance after surgery, cheers people.

When I bought my pillar drill the fork-lifted into my car and when I got home I dismantled it where it sat and pulled it out in manageable lumps.

Broken into parts they’re very manageable. The Fobco I have weighs a solid 70kg which is a bit more than I’d care to lift! Taking the head unit off is a big help though. I still like to get my dad to help me lift it back on. Just minimises risk.

Would no one local to you collect it for fuel and a few quid?
Perhaps a young lad who needs some cash, has a car and plenty of time?
I would just do an early morning or late night run, but I know the feeling of having no time.

I can be such a Dumbass at times why didn't I think of that in the first place, I can only put it down pain meds and stress after surgery, of course, just take some tools and break it into hopefully three parts

My SIP Bench pillar was delivered on a pallet, I had to take it to bits to move it to its destination.

I'm not familiar with the drill in question, but if it has oil in it drain it before loading it into your car.

Perhaps if you offer the seller a few quid he could put it on a pallet for you? Devon to Kent is a long way.

And just as long back again  OP says he doesn't want to get involved in any kind of courier operations, strictly pick up only can't find any specs on the drill, mainly weight and dimensions if a courier would be possible.

Half the table will come off usually by removal of a central bolt.
The base with four bolts
The motor also four bolts and a disconnection of the wires.

You will be left with fairly manageable bits that will fit in just about any hatchback.

Of course if you recovering from surgery and not your usual self then no one knows what you are capable of other than yourself.

In fairness to the seller I can understand their reluctance to pallet/courier, I would be in the same frame of mind, many items arrive undamaged but some don't and they are the one's that can end up causing loads of hassle.

Cheers for that cumbriasteve, of course you are right regarding my physical state, one day I feel good then another feel like the proverbial doggy doo as far as walking on the leg goes, just talking to an old work buddy of mine who manages logistics for amazon hopefully he can take me up there and back in his small van, just hate having to ask someone else to do something that I ordinarily would carry out myself, needs must I suppose at this point in time.

I have been very lucky in that everything I have bought says buyer to collect but they are always happy to palletise for me if I arrange shipping. You will always get the odd one who won't of course.
Some of our rivals offer a palletising service - tick this box - pay £15 and the driver will palletise for you no problem. Well it isn't that simple sadly. We chose to remove the palletising tick box years ago. It is never that simple. One customer expected our driver to palletise an old Rayburn - of course it was still plumbed in the farmhouse kitchen! The best though was the small fish pond. Driver gets there - yup still fish in it!
