are the top old stuff that they will not embarrass you!
The issue is,it is a bit of bulky stuff, for a reason of course but unfortunately currently not have a a big workshop to fit this supper kits.
I will keep an eye in a bench one that seems smaller.
I do agree rtbcomp record power the green line seems cheaper than the Blue that Tigler suggest that seems really professional tool and good quality.
On the other side CJ seems really happy with his Record power drill and as I do not need it for a heavy kind of stuff it is an option.
Not sure which of the 3 Clarke,Record power or Draper I could trust, possible none nowdays.

I will have to give serious thinking here

Don't forget the Fobco. I have a 7/8, fantasic bit of kit, although you do need a few 'Arnies' to move it around.

if you can go 3 phase a good drill can be very cheap. you can pick up the swedish ones with the geared heads for couple hundered notes.

that late is cheap at 1.5 tonne you could take it direct to the scrap and make enough cash for a few rounds of beer. is it a serious advert?

Do be any chance have a clue about its motor and the Watt.

They were only made with 240 volt single phase, 1/4 HP motors. One of the features of this drill is quick speed change, there is a single lever to slacken the belt which is then moved to the correct pulley for the speed required and then the lever is just moved back to re-tension. The drill looks very simple but is full of very clever design features.

Tigl I just done the calculation and the 1/4 it comes in something like 186 Watts.
I seems to me really low !Not sure about that so please give me your lights !
Price is good but I am concern about the Watt as less Watt mean less power .The Draper one comes to something like 500 Watt of course is Draper and not Record Blue that I definitely trust more !

What are you planning on drilling? That'll be ample for most jobs you're likely to try with a drill press of that size, unless you plan on ramming a drill bit into metal rather than drilling correctly, and it's no biggie to replace the motor if you do need a bit more oomph.

So if you was in myside Matt you will go for that drill rather a Draper more expensive of course but 500 Watt?
Well I have a small work shop and there is possibilities for drilling steel but not heavy stuff!
I am concern about the changing of motor! Are you able to add a more powerful motor on that drill from your experinece?
Sometimes I am feeling some tools build with certain specs that if you ad a larger motor something may goes wrong with the other components of the tool !

The Progress I mentioned earlier has a 3/4 hp motor and that's a serious bit of kit.

You don't need much power. Drilling larger holes uses slower speeds and higher torque but still modest power. (Power = Speed x Torque)

I guess so. Changing motor may be possible, depends on the physical space available. I wouldn't increase it much though, given that the rest of the mechanicals (especially the chuck size) may not be upto it.

Seems like a nice tool and Tigler seems really happy with the one he has so I see this as a positive thing.Not have any tool from them expect a Pipe Vice that is really good tool!
What could be the maximum you will go,in terms of motor size. 1Hp for example or a bit higher ?

1HP would be silly, and also quite large for a single phase motor. You're creating problems which don't exist. Address the power issue if and when it ever arises, which it likely won't. As for which, the Record or Draper, quality speaks for itself. One is, one isn't. Most modern, domestically biased drill presses are fine for whacking holes in material. If you want precision and reliability, however, generally you can forget it.

Plus, you do also have to remember that manufacturers these days can be, to put it mildly, quite optimistic regarding power ratings, and they aren't exactly averse to 'adapting' their testing methods to make things sound better than they are. For example, a modern 500W motor could easily be classed as that rating for the simple fact that it lasted, for example, several minutes at that load before it fried, whereas older kit will usually be tested at a constant load for a period of time. I personally take most manufacturers ratings with a pinch of salt, these days.
