Your pulley cover is cast?

Mine is thin sheet - same shape though.

I wonder when they changed the design

I cant imagine anyone going to that much effort, though. It must have been deep drawn, under heat.

The Meddings M2 had a cast iron pulley cover, but I also have two M4, one has a cast alloy pulley cover, the other has a pressed steel cover.

I took the old ones to a bearing place and they matched them. It was a Koyo and a FAG, as far as I recall there were two different sizes and they were just deep groove ball bearings. Nothing fancy.

They weren't hard to get, just measure your old ones or take them into a bearing supplier.

It is meant as an extractor yes.

SNAP! Mine has a cast aluminium belt cover so assuming MF2 from the above discussion.

What drive belt do you stick into these? Looks like a 10mm wide belt would fit best.

im pretty certain i got a 13mm for mine.

An A profile belt was suggested for old stuff and they are all 13mm wide. But the grove in the pulley is 10mm wide. Is it normal for the belt to stick out a bit above the pulley? I think mine is running a car fan belt right now and it is bad for slipping.

mine sticks out a fair way.(1)

it *does* slip a bit.
maybe mine is too big.(1)

3L or a 3vx type maybe? Quite uncommon, don’t think I’ve ever seen smaller than an a section belt

Z section is what you need.

Thanks Andy - I've just ordered a Z35 which should match the current belt length. They are not so expensive so could go another if that doesn't fit. Will be lovely to have a less slippy drive to make large diameter holes a bit quicker.

My M4 has a pressed steel cover, my Fobco has a cast aluminium one. Prefer a cast cover really, but what I’d really like is a cover like the Fobco 10/eight, which lifts up at each end to save faffing with screws

My cover still doesn't have a hinge on it

The good ole' meddlings has punched over 400 holes in 3mm box and angle this week. It might be basic but it sure is nice.
