Took a couple of photos of my Clarke chuck & quill.......

With the quill extended there is a slot and rotating the chuck brings the Morse Taper ejection slot in line.

A tapered drift is then used against the Morse Taper tang to eject the chuck using a mallet.

Not quite, the guard is attached to the larger diameter stop just above the chuck and comes down with the quill. I have set the depth stop to hold the quill down in order to take the photo.

Just an Idea i have used in the past for bad MT drills is to wrap some thin paper round the taper make sure it is only one wrap ie does'nt over lap and tap in the drill usually sorts them as a quick fix, the paper allows for the slight discrepancies.

I see, thanks for the explantion. I'm going to have a look/strip down of the drill on the weekend. I've tried to like your post, but the laptop is playing up.

Before you condemn the drill try another (better) chuck on the taper, you may find a genuine Jacobs fits better.
