Pig tails when dry sanding with da fine papers

I have been unable to use my da to cut off orange peel and had to resort to wet sanding on my clear coats.

I have found that within 30 seconds I get a build up of hard points on the paper which causes pig tails. The hard points don't come off the paper easily.

I've been using Rhynodry (Indasa) paper.

Any suggestion on why this is happening, is it due to the clear coat, the paper, the da or my technique?

The lacquer is still too soft. It is known as "pilling" and is a pain in the bum as it wrecks the pad. I use Autonet pads which seem largely immune to pilling.

As above, the lacquer is too soft and sticks to the paper in spots.

I just had a look at the Autonet pads but they only seem to go up to 800. Its 1000 to 2000 I get the problems with.

How long do you leave it before hitting the orange peel? I've had this problem when tacking the orange peel a few days after painting.

It depends how long you leave it, what temperature it is, how many coats you apply, and how thick you apply them.

Too late for the next job as I painted the wing back in June, but at least it should be hard by now.

The top of the wing was close to perfect but the side was peely and needs attention.

Yep, got plenty of experience doing that but would like something a bit quicker and less messy.

prefer something like this, 23 mins into the video he hits it with his DA without a worry of pig tails.

I have had problems just this week trying to get stock. I ended up buying from the Polish bloke in Bristol, via Ebay.

Try Abranet or just Mirka as a search term.

The problem with Rocket is the dulling of the paint. My body specialist round the corner swears by Sunox Viper hardener. Goes off pretty quickly without dulling. Not cheap mind and I have only found one supplier...

I'd be tempted to take it inside to harden further for a day or two then try again dry, by hand and slowly to prevent any heat build up in the soft lacquer. No short cuts I'm afraid.

He is in Australia though, probably a warm bit and he does say that it has been left for the weekend so plenty of time to harden off.

I've been told off on here for suggesting using washing up liquid because of the salts in it, not that I take any notice as I've done it lots with no bad effects
