I was looking at old royal mail vehicle sites a few days ago.
I was trying to find out what the walkthrough vans they used in london in the 60's were.
They had a roller rear door and perkins engine.

May not be any connection, but, there was a Clare's motors near Crown Point (Norwood area) in South London when I was a teenager. The place was like a time warp. Run by two or maybe three very elderly brothers. In the past they had done car repairs and the like, but had reduced their services to supplying car spares from the extensive stock of new old stock shelved vintage car parts and also secondhand parts heaped up in their yard, they also rebuilt car magnetos. I bought a couple of 1930s rear axles in their closing down sale which occurred in the mid 1970s; literally tons of Edwardian and early vintage car parts went in the skip if someone didn't happen to buy them at that time.

That must be the same business as my family lived there from late ‘40’s- ‘65,my sister taught at crown point.
It was my uncle that worked for the brothers.

Here's one example of what an Alladin's cave Clares was back then, along with a mate, I did a lot of work to re-commission this car which was/is a 1929 Austin Sixteen Six.

Eddie, the longtime owner intended to use it as the wedding car for his daughter who had loved riding in the car as a young child. Tragically his daughter died suddenly of a rare illness before the wedding day, but Eddie asked us to complete the car anyway. as well as the bodywork which had received a lot of 1960s 'restoration' -lots of Bondo and perforated zinc sheet- the cylinder head had a big frost crack which someone had attacked with a stick welder, it leaked like a sieve. spraying it with Ardrox dye revealed welding cracks all over the top of the head which looked like crazy paving. Unlike the Seven and the Twelve Four, Austin Sixteen Six models are rare. However, Clares had one of these cylinder heads in their yard, which looked like it had been sitting there since the 30s, I had to drill out the spark plugs which were only recognisable by their ceramics, the core plug seats were so rusted out that I had to recut them to the next size up. It needed the best part of 0.1" off the face to clean it up, but all that was a lot less important than the fact they actually had one of these rocking horse s**t items in stock, I think I paid a fiver for it. They also had a new timing chain on the shelf.

Brakes by Captain Girling, his first car brakes, one shoe that curls round like a dog turd, maybe that's what they used for the linings! cable operated, wide pressed steel drums that are the wheel hub so about as round as can be expected...…….

I found a 1933 Austin 12/6 with an alloy two door body, a Gordon England? when I was around 13, always looked into the gardens when doing my paper round, was in a poor state, My dad towed it home on a solid tow, never finished that project, got married and left home.....

Here’s a bizarre situation of my not so rare vehicle,3 years after buying this v8 SDI,I spot another,whilst holidaying in east anglia,what are the chances?
Mines the one next to my beetle.i supposed a large dealer would have a run of plates.

Yes that was 1983,sold in 1984,then got a P6.
