Well mostly, a friend of mine was knocked off his bike on the way to college, a passerby held his hand 'til ambulance arrived, when he came round properly he found his rather expensive watch missing!

Im a biker too and hate to hear of stories like this i hope it doesnt put you off biking for life too mate good to hear your alright but with a poorly bike. Whats the story on the insurance in this situation?

well, that crash was in december 08, and i was paying 1100 a year fully comp

i didnt ride again till october 09, due to injuries, and that was on a 125 crosser on a farm herding sheep.

in sept 11 i bought a 1200 bandit, and was paying 600 a year fully comp.

the bandit has gone now, and i am looking to buy either another bandit, a 1250, or an xjr 1300 ive been riding since i was 10. started with a race tuned cr80 that could keep up with 125s, then onto bigger and faster crossers. had a moped that did 70, and then the cbr400 when i did my test at 17. nothing will put me off bikes my dad has always been into bikes, and as such there was always one being fixed or sprayed in his garden, so ialways had a different one to sit on as a kid

also, withing a month of me crashing my cbr400, my old man was out on his kawasaki zephyr 750, and a big end came loose and smashed a hole in the crank case.

so we decided to put my cbr400 engine in his zephyr frame.

as he is a custom airbrusher, and this is a fairly good engineering project, i think it fits well on this forum

I was out on my bike and stopped for a pedestrian crossing to let two young lads across. A car entered the roundabout I'd just come off, didn't bother looking at me or the crossing and punted me 40 feet down the road.
One of the pedestrians gave an insurance statement in which he declared that in his opinion I was speeding , I thought my insurers would laugh off such a concept, especially from a non-driving, non-biking teenager and seeing as I WAS STOPPED but no: based on that one line they decided the whole incident was my fault so although they had to buy me a new bike, I lost all my no-claims discount.
I ride all the time with a 'what if' approach, but how the feck do you allow for every car behind possibly running into you?
The attending Police decided that as nobody was hurt (oh I hurt, but not till later) it was 'knock for knock' (eh? How about driving without due care and attention?!) so no action was taken... because even though had I not been there, he could have mowed the pedestrians down instead, there was no proof he could/would have done so.
On that basis there's no proof I'll have a crash if I'm drunk or am speeding yet there are still laws in place... right, that's my blood pressure through the roof, where's the rum

totally agree with you. the police/insurance will do whatever they please in order to drop the amount of paperwork they have to do

me n my missus were hit by a driver while we were parked with the engine off, they came round a corner too fast, understeered into our front wing.

the insurance sided with them, and deemed it to be my missus fault as apparently she didnt give way. we were parked with the engine off after having just got back in the car. and had 2 witnesses too. insurance didnt wanna know and we lost ncb and had to pay 500 quid excess and repair our own car

i was confronted by 2 coppers knocking on my door claiming that i had been reported by a neighbour that i was seen speeding at 'well over 70mph' in a 20mph road.

not only was the road only 200ft long, with 2 full width speedbumps, and a 90deg bend, but the bike i was riding...was a gilera dna 50...a 'kin moped. and this was before i tuned it lol

i have lost all repsect for this countries police force, and have never had a respect for insurance companies.

I know what you mean about insurance taking sides, I ran into the back of a woman at a roundabout...she pulled out and slammed on the brakes as she left the roundabout and i bumped into the back of her and damaged her exhaust ( damaged rear box and burst the flexi)

We went to ats within half an hour and we paid for the damage in full, 3 weeks later she claimed the insurance even with all the evidence that we had all the faults fixed

BTW Like the airbrushing...have been watching occ and impressed with some of the stuff done for paul jnr. would love to be able to do something like that.

I wrote off a Lada taxi on a Metro van that pulled out in front of me. The attending Police officer said it was clearly the Metro driver's fault but two days later I was charged with driving without due care (though she wasn't!) and said Policeman denied on the interview tape all knowedge of our conversation.
Woman in Metro then produced three 'witnesses', one of whom claimed I was 'doing at least 80' onto this roundabout (80, uphill, in a 1200 Lada, yeah right), that I 'deliberately rammed her' etc etc.
Not only were there no people anywherre to be seen (they claimed they were stood on the adjacent petrol station forecourt), by spectacular coincidence they all lived within 3 doors of the woman concerned. Okaaaaay.
Fortunately, the Crown Prosecution Service saw sense and threw the case out and I found out later that the PC on scene got his **** roasted for failing to follow procedure (neither of us was breathalysed etc.).
