Interested redig It needs to be an 1800kg one for this 3500kg trailer if you could get some measurments and price let me knowI've got a brand new axle assembly complete with brakes / hubs etc . available for a sensible deal. Can let you have details tomorrow if interested. Location n/wilts
Cheers bright spark they don't do anything with the capacity rating I want spoken to quite a few trailer places only thing they want to do is sell a new axles but as yet nothing with the same spec closest I have found is in Germany for 1000 quidwith a piece of decent steel if you have a lathe and good at welding. cutting the old one out from through the arm and weld the new one in not the nicest of jobs but doable . or try and buy a ready made one to weld in Stub Axles | UK Delivery | Trailertek | TrailerTek

Nah slim, if you've got a bit of "I will have a go at anything mentality" and some decent tools most things are fixableYou realise you've just unwittingly raised @redlig's price.....

Wowser cheers windy I have had a look online and I thought it was going to be more costly than that, I have a friend that has an engineering place, I shall give him a call in the morning to see what he has about, especially now I know I can afford it . Plus if i can get 50-55mm round bar it will have saved me a couple hours milling it squareHmmm well for the sake of £20 odd for 300mm of 50mm en19 is it worth the risk? Peace of mind is worth far more than a score in my book!
Great bit of info there Agroshield, I will see what’s available if my friend has none I can get some onlineGiven that the stub axle has to be welded in, have you read the advice here?
Perhaps EN8 would suit you better.
very good and well made saved a fortune as wellIt too me a couple of days to get this piece of EN8 I think I paid over the odds but heyho jobs a goodun I got it a bit longer than I needed so as to cover any mistakes my main worry was the 5/8 thread on the end I did a few practices on some plain bar first so as I had the tpi right, In the end I did good on it nice fitting new 5/8th nut.

Panic over now just turn the tapers taking angle and measurement from the opposite side.

After a test fit

it was time to sort out the toe in and camber, I went to fit the drums on and I then realised I needed to sort out the drum which had ovaled out where the bearings fit so I turned out the inner and made a bearing bush for the bearing to fit the hole so I could fit the drum to the axle to get the toe in and camber correct, once I had the bearing case in the bush I stuck it in the frezer aover night it then dropped in a treat.

Now for the toe in and camber, it took me an afternoon to get this right but with constantly taking measurements from the existing axle I got there in the end, to were I could tack weld it.

Once I had it tack welded I then fitted it back on the trailer to make sure all was ok and in alignment. I wrapped about 6 old soaking bath towels around the rubber end of the axle taking note of what Chris Snow said about the heat then while father added more water I heated up the weld area on the spindle with the oxy acetylene torch I was quite surprised the drop arm piece actually stayed quite cool. Then I welded it up.

The drum with the bearing bush is only a temporary fit to get the toe in and camber, as I intend to get a new drum. Job done

I have a test in the coming week I have to pick up a load of manure for mothers garden so I will load about 4 ton to test alls good, its only about 6 miles away, if it going to bust or anything I would sooner have it local.
Cheers fro all the advice on this one. Thanks
