I remember the Sunbeam's very well S7 and S8, One of them had balloon tyres ( S7 ), Lovely looking well built machines, Very smooth and quiet With a shaft drive, rear cylinder had a tendency to overheat,

one at newark bike show last year with Reliant 850cc engine fitted looked just like factory fit.
looked good talked to owner said a few have been fitted for sidecar work his was used as solo

My Father was looking for a gearbox and shaft drive off a Sunbeam to fit a flat four Wooler engine and came home with a running S8 Sunbeam and another for spares. He ended up using the runner in the late 70's as daily transport and I did many miles on the back in all weathers. One memorable trip we were approaching a set of lights and we both felt something hit Dad's jacket pocket close to my hand and there were two teenagers looking at us on the other side of the road who turned and walked off sharpish. Dad did a U turn, called them over, asked if they had thrown something at us and one of them was trying to hide an air pistol by his side. Stupid kid was within arms reach and lifted the pistol up so the old man grabbed him and gave him a smack on the jaw while still holding the bike upright with me on the back! 
He told the kid he was going to find a copper and we left at the highest revs I ever heard that bike do only to get pulled over within 400yds by a squad car that had been sitting at the lights and saw Dad hit the kid. After explaining about the air pistol the Sergeant said with a smile on his face "Do you consider the course of justice to have been served Sir?"
They followed us back down the road and spotted the kids getting on a bus, one carrying a pistol sized brown paper bag and the other holding his jaw. We rode by laughing as they pulled the bus over!
