I use mine for photos's facebook,my shift schedule,mp3,and video BUT i do pay for a contract with unlimited data,why,I work nights

Mrs Robo had a Samsung Galaxy Ace for christmas and immediately starts installing apps/games etc. Just had a look at itemised billing and it is downloading data automatically once a day which is more than doubling the normal monthly bill .

Can anyone point me to an idiots guide to finding and disabling the update feature?

I should point out I only use one of the old pushbutton phones for making calls and don't have a clue about these "new fangled" touch screen app things!

Just get the 'credit control' app out (sledgehammer to you and me) and give the phone a dose of it, then buy a 9.99 sim free phone from t****s with a free sim.
Much cheaper in the long run.

Go into settings on the left hand button, open wireless and networks then mobile networks and disable packet data.

Depending on phone, turning off packet data still allows some updates and hence data charges.

Download an app called APNdroid - one click to switch data on/off (completely) and it works brilliantly.

Alternatively, if you want cheap data and you're not on contract have a look at Giffgaff's tariffs - best thing I ever did!

Followed Scott & Pedro concise instructions to turn off packet data and will monitor charges over next few days.
No chance of prising smartphone out of Mrs Robo's hands so she has found a reasonable sounding sim only package from "Three" £15 a month for 600 mins, 3000 texts and no data limit which we will look at changing to when present contract expires.
