philips welder triping on ac only

hey guys been using my philips welder lately it works fine on all dc setting but trips alot when using ac . its a very large transformer unit . i dont know what could be causing it but its very annoying as the trip isnt in my unit which is very inconvenient lol . my only thought is that the hf works constanly on ac so could be something to consider but i dnt know how that works tbh . it generaly does it when arcing up i usualy see quite a large spark from the tungsten/work when it trips

any ideas guys ?

i dont know much about your welder but whats its input current rating . and what is the circuit breaker that feeds it . single pole . type b or c and its current rating ?has it ever run without tripping

its wired using 2 phases from the 3phase it currently has a 32amp breaker which is a C rated one . poss thinking of going to a D one

runs no problem on dc but ac yes fine untill it decides to trip it did this more frequectly when it had a B rated one in we changed it and it seemed to be better/fixed but im not sure if it is as ive only just noticed its on ac that it trips . another consideration is that its around 6meters away from the board so thats a fair length of cable between isnt it . must have somesort of loss on it

cant help u on that one all id have to do is put a clamp on ameter on and test the inrush current on the ac and dc :someone into welders will probably explain

i think the dc will reduce the instant demand on the system as against the ac which will be higher

Hello Phil,

looking at the rating plate, it should be on a 64 amp socket, it's rated at 57 amps so it looks as if your supply is too light for the current rating you are using to weld with? I would guess that there is more inrush current with A.C as it is not being fed through the rectifier?
