Phase converter

I'm looking to get a 2 post lift, i have a 3 phase in mind and i'm getting it fitted for a reasonable price. What i need to know is... when i convert the 1 phase to 3 phase with an converter/inverter will the load capacity of 2500KG be lower as the voltage is dropped from 415 to 240?

Good question. The load capacity will be the same The question is will the motor have the power to lift, or is that what you meant.

It goes with out saying you should always engage the locks once set at the height you require

That's what I meant its a screw type lift. As 240v is 57% of 415, i would expect that the load capacity would be a similar equation and work out to 1425KG, or am i very very wrong? if this is the case then its not worth getting unless I can do something that will give it more ooomph??

What's the motor, and how was/is it wired?

If its 415 Star / 230 Delta then putting it in Delta for the inverter will mean it'll be fine, it'll draw more current, but inverter selection will account for that.

will that be stamped on the motor somewhere?

theres a rating plate riveted to motor with all the details eg voltage and amperage if u look inside the conection plate there generaly a wiring diagram for star or delta conections star being 415 volt and delta 240 v

I changed the motor on mine to a single phase, had to make up new pulleys as their different sizes from the original and some other parts too to get it going but it works fine now. More details if you request.

I have a 2 post lift and the supplier changed the motor to a single phase during installation. It's never been able to start the lift with a load on it though , I have to press the lower button then quickly hit the raise button !! Just live with it now.

Ahh yes I got that slight prob too, but it dosn't bother me to fully lower the car and lift again if I want it a bit higher.

You might try increasing the value of the start capacitor. Have done that on one of the cheap compressors I had as it took too 30 seconds to get up to speed.

from what the chap tells me it has a 230-240 triangle (delta i presume) and next to it 300-415 upside down Y.

Does that mean it'll run on both single and three phase?

Nope. Both 3 phase, one configuration for 230V and the other for 415. Note in both instances there are 3 Supply wires coming into the motor terminals.

that picture is from an earlier post, i haven't seen how many wires on the actual item i'm wanting to get. I'll go have a look this weekend hopefully.

Star or delta will both be 3-phase.

208/220 is what most 3-phase is here in the US.

motors that are dual voltage will run of a 240v 3 phase inverter wired star .also of a static or rotary converter at 415 volt 3 phase both have individual uses. the 240 inverter is cheaper and smaller and has speed controller. the static will run equipment at 415 volt which is usefull on machines that have 415 transformers that cant be run on 240 without doing modifications to machinery. theres fore and against on both of them heres a static that i use to run milling machine and other motors on various equipment it suits my needs

Inverters can generate all 3 phases so can run off 230 and generate 415 3-phase with no step up in voltage.

If the moter can ge wired delta for 230, then you can try a static converter but might not work well starting with a load.

as i said in post static converter i have IS 415 volt it has a step up transformer in it and capacitors look up trasnswave converters the inverters ARE 240 VOLT and will only run on delta the converter runs star 415 440 v

Went to have a look, its 3 phase and the details stamped on the motor are...

What can I do with this in terms of using it on single phase, what type of converter would be best?

Could i also just replace the motor with a single phase 1440 3kw motor? would a single phase motor have the juice to start it?
and what does pole mean as I've seen 2 pole and 4 pole motors
