Ye, I think thats the main problem why it wouldn't work. It wouldn't get the coverage quick enough.
The government are pushing public transport and upping the duty on fuel. But lets face it they need the money. They tax fuel and fags as thats what people need the most. When people stop smoking and stop using cars the country is well and truly up the creek without a paddle. So they'll tax us for something else. Rip of Britain. It won't change.
Boycotting one companies outlets won't make a difference, in addition to the reasons already stated many of the forecourts are franchises so the people that'll be hurt most are small business owners in reality. Both of the local Shells i typically use are

The peak oil thing... admit i don't really follow that sort of stuff and of course it is a finite resource but my understanding was that the situatuation is a moving target i.e. as technology improves new fields are being found and fields that aren't/weren't possible/profitable to drill for become a viable resource?

That find in Brazil is not very much oil really relative to how much oil the World uses in a day. (About 95 Million barrels of oil a day (95,000,000) ). https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2174rank.html If there was a lot of oil left to be discovered they wouldn't be in Canada trying to get oil out of the tar sands. Petrol seems relatively cheap right now, because demand is down because of the economy. If the economy ever picks up oil prices will go up as well. or you could all convert to run on lpg . like me he he i pay 55p a litre to fill up and regardless of what people say you can not tell the difference .
Now i know i still have to put petrol in my car because it starts on petrol then goes to gas when warm. But compared to the price im paying now to the price i was paying il stick to lpg thanks .
to fill my lpg tank it costs around £25.00 and for that i can range between 260 and 280 miles now do the maths

Governments and oil companies routinely lie through their teeth about the amount of oil in any given reserve. Something to do with manipulating the price and using the oil in the ground as security against loans.
Muppet in the peak oil link also blames the 2008/2009 fiscal crisis on PO. Funny, I thought it was just a good old fashioned capitalist bubble collapse such as we've regularly seen.
People have been banging on about PO for 35 years and the world hasn't ended yet. It always seems to have either 'just peaked' or 'will peak soon'. Fruitcakes.
Unless you think you can store enough food for the rest of your life I'd suggest not worrying about it.

we are being ripped off. as far as i thought VAT could only be charged on services and goods

At the end of the day it's pointless moaning and joining the rest of the sheep in sending chain emails which do nothing.
We drive cars, cars take fuel, they sell fuel, we buy it....at the price they dictate.
No amount of campaigns will change that fact, it's always been that way and always will be, nothing we can do about it.

Thats how they want us to react !! Problem is , it's the thin end of the wedge. They get away with fuel , so have you noticed how council tax is soaring ? Also , food , utility etc ? We keep taking it , they keep taking it !!!

Today it would be the tax levied on petrol, the country goes on 'strike' for a week, Westminster is forced to cut this to a more acceptable level. Where is that lost revenue found? I know, thinks Brown, Council Tax. Everyone pays that.

So, the populace think '****** that, it worked for petrol, let's strike again for a week and get the council tax back down'.

Here's what we SHOULD do. Get out of the EU now. It cost us over £52 BILLION POUNDS (not a typo) in 2007. Yes, for ONE YEAR, that's what it cost for us to be a member state. God only knows what it's costing us now, three years later.
That's one helluva lot of hospitals, schools, health reforms and hence jobs.
I wasn't only referring to fuel prices , our government wastes money on a mammoth scale everywhere , if that tax revenue was used efficiently then no where near as much would be required , result , lower taxes.
The EU is a double edged sword , on one hand it is yet another gravy train for the elite on the other it is , or could be , an amalgamated market with huge benefits.
