Petrol powered drill....

Was having a look on Facebook Marketplace today and came across this...a petrol powered drill. Doesnt look like they were overly popular - has anyone come across one??

I saw a DiResta one once, not sure if it’s something he cobbled together or an actual product.

Good for working out in the back of beyond I suppose if you’ll be away for a long time (ie to lose battery charge on a rechargeable drill). Be more handy if it took a morse taper though for doing gate posts. Drilling <13mm with a rattly Ryobi 2stroke? No thanks

I have one, its a great bit of kit to have about the farm. I use mine for drilling 3/4" holes through 9" gate posts, saves dragging genny`s and leads about. Also good when its lashing down with rain, dont need to worry about getting it wet.

I tried the drug as a one off and restored a small marples junior hobby vice

That was three years ago. I’ve just bought a mechanical hacksaw to add to my complement of two lathes, two grinders and a bench drill. I’m addicted!

Used to use one of these when we were boring holes in the rocks at low water for putting in ring bolts for the Salmon nets. Was a real pleasure to use as previously we used to have to bore the holes out with a star chisel and hammer which was hard going at times.

some of you guys have tools id love to want but got no room for them to go into the sheds

We used them in mine / cave rescue for fitting rigging bolts
If they are looked after they work well
The new battery drills are now used as we had problems with exhaust fumes

I used to sell the Tanaka ones mainly to fencing contractors etc

The ones the rail ways use often had a special clamping arrangement fitted that is part of the drill and cant be removed making them useless for anything else my dad had a large pile of them
And one of the above ryobis but with a special chuck that we couldnt find bits for so all got binned

Stihl still make a drill but i don't think they are that powerful think the the joist drills that makita Milwaukee and dewalt now make are as powerfull
