They are great bits of kit, if you are out in an open space away from electricity it beats any cordless. Spares for petrol Ryobi drills are a problem, there are no spares in the country despite being taken over by another outfit that claim to be a Ryobi uk stockist.

Yes lots of fencers use them think it's a chainsaw adapter so instead of the bar and chain you have a short chain drive to a gearbox with a drill bit drive

I don’t see them as a big problem like a gut buster, a gut buster takes an age to stop after releasing the trigger, these petrol drills stop the second you release the throttle and the clutch will slip if it gets snagged up.

Stihl did / still do make one for the ms260. Goes on in place of a bar cover.

They also do a 1” impact but I don’t know if that’s a conversion or a stand alone model.

Even stranger to watch than kick-starting the old Villiers in your Bond.


My friend had a 125cc Villiers that he upgunned with a 175 from an AC Invalid Carriage. It had a narrow bonnet and was kick started from outside the engine bay.

Putters off to find a petrol driven sewing machine - and failing so far.
