People that don't want to work?

I went up to London for a meeting, had a wander through Soho during lunch time & I was asked by a very tidy black woman “do you want me” it wouldn’t have been so obvious if she hadn’t shouted this across the road. I declined the offer & walked on. This was the only time I’ve ever been offered “it” as Ronan says, I’ve led a very sheltered life, I grew up in the 60s, a time of drugs, sex & rock & roll ...... I missed it all!

Group of Romainian girls who live near my workshop - I have repaired/serviced and MOT'd a few high spec German cars for them - Gwagon - big GLE - and an S class.

Got called round to fit a stop/start battery to newish Golf fitted the battery. Got offered coffee - went into the kitchen to get paid/wash my hands.

Then it all dawned on me.

I got paid from handbag full of rolls of notes (euros and sterling).

House really tidy with no personal possessions lying about.

Girls not quiet dressed enuf for mid a winters afternoon.

Few months ago I did a set of front brakes for one of the girls father - he could not speak a word of English - he was driving a really high spec newish AMG ML on Romainian plates. This chap was about 50ish - 5ft nothing square - like a human bull dog - with knife wound scars badly stitched all over his face.

But saying this - they are very polite to us - always turn up on time and always pay.

Well I lived in Amsterdam for several years...there wasn't much I wasn't offered!

The ladies used to bang on the windows as I cycled past to work...after several months they just gave me a polite wave.

Guess what the busiest day and time was for their services?

One of the guys I used to work with in Germany will probably still say one of the young ladies in the windows down the street behind Aachen cathedral said "Hi Bri" when we walked past . . .

She might have done, but certainly not directed at me

I find that really demeaning, imagine any little girl growing up and wanting that for herself ?

I too would not want it for my daughters - but it is the "oldest trade in the world".

Yup...but I think it's going on in every country. The Dutch take an open view...which means it can be regulated.

They are actually very conservative people...but they have a strong belief in personal freedom to choose.

Is it better in the open or hidden away...I don't really know.

Who would appear to not be doing what the original complaint was - not working

readuing yesterday about a lass who makes 10-15 grand a month flogging piccies - and who reckoned she ought to be a millionaire, but she keeps spending it

When all you need is help for a few weeks after losing a job to keep the bills paid while looking for something else the benifit system fails

London, appartment block - Lived here 4 years and I dont even know who my neighbours are.

That's not a London thing it's a people thing. If you live in a terraced house in the centre of any big city you will be no more 150m from hundreds of people yet many people have no idea who lives more than 3-4 doors away.

Might also be a class thing too, i know middle class people who would not dream of mixing with the locals.
