PDF document help needed

Hi Guys
I have been asked to submit a proposal for a public commission as either a PDF document or in Powerpoint format.

Is anybody aware of a free download that allows this type of thing to be done on a fairly basic level.

I have until the 21st of July to get it submitted.

I use CutePDF, simple and it works. Basically looks like a printer to your app.

The other option is OpenOffice, It can export to PDF or powerpoint.

Try Googling "PDF Printer Emulator" or similar. They look like a printer to your application but produce PDFs instead.

Download a program called PrimoPDF

Google it its only about 7meg

Install it on the hard drive.

Now! What your going to have to do is write out the document. Save in your document file. When your ready to convert it to a PDF you need to open the document, press to print the document, when the box comes up and asks what printer your going to use open the dialog box and choose PrimoPDF. Press the print key and then the PrimoPDF box will open and it will ask where do you want to save it and what do you want to call it.

Also before you do all this go into Primo and select the (ebooks) button its second in from left to right.

Its great and saves you the $2000 price for acrobat.

If you have a mac its already built in. Anything you can print you can convert to PDF and its easy.

OpenOffice - free. Exports docs as PDFs and can edit them (may need an add-on for that, can't recall). Opens all versions of MS Office docs inc Word, Powerpoint, Excel (handy for me as I'm on an old version of Orifice).

A mac is something worn by DOM.
Granted I would have bought one instead of a PC but was overruled by the management.

Anyway. SORTED. As usual this site has found the ideal solution to a problem. Cute PDF thingy seems to work fine. For a few seconds I was wondering how to add pictures. Stupid me. You make the document first then PDFise it.

Mike that is a damn civilised offer, but so far I seem sorted but a virtual pint is offered.

I may have a look at open office as well.

I haven't used any of the free pdf creators. Before there were any cheap/free alternatives the way to do it was:
Install a postscript printer, select install new printer and go for one with postscript in the name[xerox and apple are two I can remember].
Then install Ghostscript[free download]
write you document and print it to file using the postscript printer. The
printed document is a postscript document. Open the postscript document
with Ghostscript and select convert from the file menu to convert to PDF.

Have downloaded open Office as well.
Seems one of the better packages for free.
Allows documents to be modified have pictures built in and saved as PDF thingies (whatver they are) also does all the boring officey stuff.

I like the word 'free' when it comes to stuff you usually have to buy.

We use this at work, as it is better (for our use) than anything else we have tried. Beats £200/license for Adobe.
10 user lifetime license = $50 (well it did!)
But the free version works fine, there is a splash screen and a pop up window of their own, that takes a few second to go but that’s it.

I use PDF creator its based on the GNU so its free for use and business, no advertising and works very well and its as simple as you would want it. Prints native as pdf or any other format you may want to convert a document too.
