So my 12 year old son, who is unvaccinated is Omnicron +ve following a saliva test last Tuesday.

Ok, he's alright, bit under the weather, loose bowels, some vomitting, and général lethargy.

Now, since all this, he's sleeping between me and wifie. 30 odd cm's at night.

Wife, daughter and I are fully vaccinated. Well we've all had two shots, not the third yet.

Everyday since he's been +ve we've been auto testing, and we're all -ve.

This strikes me as odd.

Unless two shots of vaccine makes you immune ?

Or is Omicron really not so bad ?

Well this was my doubts, so Yesterday I got my nose raped by a district nurse, and still came out négative.

Daughters and I are testing -ve and wife doesn't fancy it, it's no fun, she doesn't work*.

*She cooks, cleans, washes clothes etc.

This is interesting since the same sort of thing has been observed in folk I know. In two sets of people living together, but in different households, one in each household has tested positive, and shows symptoms, the other is LFT negative, and has no symptoms. One of the LFT negatives is PCR positive, not sure about the other.

The Omicron variant appears to cause less severe disease symptoms in Africa, and the data are starting to suggest the same may be the case in Europe, though the exposure duration to Omicron has been shorter in Europe, so the confidence level in this finding is lower.

In early 2020 my partner caught the original strain . She was very ill for weeks , worryingly so . I sleep 30cm away , shared towels bathroom , food etc etc but my daughter and I avoided it , no jabs at that time .
Yet she has two student nurse colleagues who have all had both jabs and booster , and are currently Ill with it .

I would put it down to pot luck as to who what and where . Along with your make up

someone I work with hasnt been vaccinated, the first time she got covid (autumn of last year) it left her in hospital for a few days. she has recently caught omicron and its been like a bad cough and cold.

one of the strange things about PCR tests is that while we know what they are, very few of us know what PCR is an abreviation for.. and the C isnt for Covid

I tested negative for a good two days after I clearly had it and was already isolating due to my wife testing positive, 3rd day for me to get a positive LFT. I wouldn't rely on the LFTs to give a timely indication, incubation period is variable and it would appear that you can be contagious before a positive test! Vaccinations doesn't give immunity I'm afraid but if you aren't experiencing any symptoms then that's a got to be a good sign you're avoiding it for the time being.

Well this is what concerns me, the incubation périod.

But can't help finding it weird, that sleeping next to Mr +ve and not getting it myself.

I think I've had it twice already, and don't want any more.

But i'm not going to stop my son sleeping in our bed when he feels ill.

PCR = Polymerase Chain Reaction
It's a test that essentially amplifies the sample to make the sample large enough to test. It's a test that is very sensitive, but the downside is it can provide false positives, and show positive from non-active/dead fragments of a recent infection, which is why you shouldn't get another PCR if you've tested positive in the previous few weeks.

LFT, on the other hand is not as sensitive, so you're more likely to get false negatives, but it's an easy test to take, and if done as per the instructions, highly accurate about whether you're currently infectious or not, which is why the UK is moving more towards using LFT's to decide if you need to isolate or not.

PCR stands for Polymerase Chain Reaction, and is a more accurate way of identifying the presence of viruses, etc. DNA is extracted from the possible virus, amplified and then tested for. As the amount of DNA should have increased, its much more easily and accurately detected.

I felt that something was amiss last Friday evening, muscular pain, a bit hot, then a bit shivery, did an LFT and it came up negative.
However Saturday morning I tested positive, I’d been working Monday - Wednesday and hadn’t been anywhere since.
So I figured I’d caught it then giving an incubation period 2-5 days.
My son tested positive 3 days after me and my wife 4 days after me. My wife and I are both triple vaccinated. So what you‘re saying makes sense, if your son tested positive on Tuesday it’s likely you’ll be getting it any time now …….. The symptoms for us have been pretty mild really, if this had been a cold I’d probably have called in sick to work on day one, then I’d have been back the next day, though everyone is different.
Ive felt fine the past 2 days but as of this evening I’m still testing positive.

I know two households that have had one member contract covid and the others haven't, so I don't think it is *that* unusual.

LFT, I think PCR tests are only done by a professional, but could be wrong.

Our neighbour’s daughter tested positive Tuesday last week, after she’d been round to see us both…

We self-isolated until yesterday then went to the local lab for a PCR, all clear thankfully
