And the post-manufacturer error ones have a star moulded into them to identify them.

Makita 'fessed up about it and for a time you could return the old style battery for a free replacement.

Thanks, if you have a link I'd be grateful as I've had mixed fortunes with re-celling, probably down to the user error I don't know one end of a BMS from the other, certainly can't tell good from bad, have always just taken it as read that they all do the job (naive I know) - and swapped then out. A good source for decent 18650's is the X20v Parkside batteries from Lidl. You get 5 2Ah cells for around £15. I've recelled a few batteries with these & they give the full 2Ah output & decent working time.

And another thing! Do you reuse the Parkside BMS when re-celling Makita shells?

You can get 2500mah Samsung high performance cells for about £3 a pop anyway, 3000's for about 3.75, I just bought a box to rebuild my cordless vacuums.

The older non star tools had a lug moulded into the base to prevent you fitting star batteries. Not sure why as the internal electrics of the tools are identical. Anyway, a few minutes with a stanley knife removes the lug!

Cell supply for small-ish orders/boxes. I think the minimum order is about £50.
