Patio Heater / Stove From Old Valve

I'm thinking this scrap LTHW non return valve I picked up will make a nice patio heater / small barbecue. Just got to decide on the best orientation. Some legs, some black stove paint etc, a short chimney maybe? Must weigh nearly 100kg. The big brass plug on the side(s) give access to the shaft the damper pivots on.

Any suggestions welcome btw!

Looking forward to see this happen! If it was just going to be a heater, the way it is orientated in the photo might work....you could hinge the large circular plate.

As a bbq, it might be better the other way with the plate area as the cooking grille

I have an old gas cylinder that I fancy doing something with in the future...

Nice find,id be tempted.to stick(make) a big industrial looking hinge on the side then remove bolts.maybe even source a round peice of heat resistant glass inserted in the door,i saw someone use the glass from a small washing machine door once,it looked great.

Pyrex dishes seem to be used a lot for 'glass' in doors. Cheap too.

Now the nights are drawing in I need to revisit this, evict whatever critters are living in it and think about some legs perhaps. Still not sure how to sit it as a patio heater / barbecue / stove. Or do I think about it for a wob?

Sat like it is in the picture or as a T?

Might rope one of the nephews in to help me lift it at the weekend and light a test fire in it. (The one without the hernia...yet).

My head is saying plasma cut, fancy thick legs, bolted on...then for a chimney...?

Half resurrecting this project to convert the old valve to a patio heater / barbecue type thing. Been doodling:

Got the valve, got the box section. Might have a load of M20 nuts & bolts.

The valves 30mm thick end flanges are 345mm dia with 12No. 22mm dia holes on a 295mm pcd.

The bolted on cover plate is a bigger dia and affixed with M16 bolts with the valve body tapped.

I like the idea of ornate, "The Nautilus" esque legs front and back. The back legs would have the flue welded on, the front a hinged door. I'm thinking plasma cut and there lies the first stumbling block!

Got all these ideas but not the cash! The fabricator I've used for nearly 40 years is under new management, I don't really know the new people so no more mates rates on bits for cash and the f***ers want VAT on it!
