Most definitely this /\/\/\And practice, practice makes a lot of difference....
Yep, plus there's not enough of a 'blue' HAZ area showing limited amps / heat has gone into the steel?im far from expert but alot of that looks like its just weld sat on the top ...bet it would break off if you could wiggle it
bit more heat ?

This welding thing is mostly practice and patience ,, you cant get experience any other way , as long as your enjoying it you will get better , its nice to see results. Keep a few of your early welds , nail them on the wall or the likes , in years to come you will look back at them and giggle. Thanks to all for your comments. It was a butt join patch, cut in at 45’, I’ve been watching Fritzee’a Fabrication and thought it seemed a good idea. He’s certainly a very talented guy.
I’m pretty sure the majority of penetration was ok, I was burning through every so often and the patch is solid, I checked with a hammer.
I’ve been practicing and did another patch today, much neater.
Cheers everyone.
No problem, I'm doing a hand standSorry the pic is upside down and I can’t find a way to rotate it.
