Password recovery

The wife got a scam text, supposedly, from Evri. As we are waiting for a parcel, she paid their asking fee, giving them her bank account details.
She then ,thought this might be a scam and contacted, the real Evri. She sent them a screenshot and they told her it was a very good copy. They advised her, to reset her phone to factory settings.
So she did this ,without talking to me or her Daughter, who,works in a phone shop and has lost everything, including her emails. Her phone is the only device she uses for emails. She cannot remember the password and has tried every password, she can think off.
Trying to recover her hotmail password, it keeps asking for last emails sent, for verification. But she rarely sends emails and it keeps coming back as not enough info to verify.
Is there any way to obtain password? It is mainly to retrieve old emails sent, from docs, employer wage slips etc

Is there an android backup stored in the cloud somewhere....probably the first thing you checked but worth suggesting just in case?

My experience was that hotmail are totally and utterly unhelpful...even when you provide the info they request they simply do nothing. This was one of the main reasons I switched over to a paid email provider...when you are paying a month sub they are a lot more helpful I find!

Hotmail isn't stored on the phone itself, so if any of the family or friends have had emails from her then they know her email address. She should try to log into it on another device, click the 'forgotten password' button and take it from there.

Everything they tell us never to do, but the sheer volume of different data and 'secrets' one has to keep across all the modern 'secure' online facilities in modern life mean you have to.

I had a two page Word document with all mine in when I was working offshore and travelling a lot. It was passworded and in my email, so I could access it wherever I was in the world.

but all this is caused by bone idolness of the user using autologin instead of keying in there details then theyve forgotten them

then you have the cheek to say you jumped to a payed account instead

there is no other way to gain access unless you use a payed account via hotmail

alot of people used hotmails free accounts the problem is remembering those create the account details or password login details

unless you can remember them or have them wrote down theres no way your going to access that account if its free

as goes for user like ive said its down to bone idolness with autologin the user has forgotten these main details to log into there account

Sounds odd that Evri would tell her to reset her phone to factory settings as well. I'd imagine the first thing would be to tell her to contact her bank, as her phone can't stop anybody emptying her bank account.

It all sounds very odd, to be honest.

@Morrisman , they probably did tell her too. This happened in the morning, she never told me until after,I was home in the evening. Funny thing is I got exactly the same email, probably about the same time, but I twigged it was a scam.
I am wondering who's contact list , they have, to get both our numbers, and text on same day!

I use a password vault. I think the default choice nowadays is Keepass.

I use an old program called PINs4, but it's nearly 20 years old. so although it's so well programmed it still works well, probably shouldn't recommend it. I keep a copy of the installer, and the data file, on Dropbox.

If she gave them the bank account details then she must have given them the banking password, otherwise what use are the details?

it all depends on what they did within there hotmail accounts if its setup so it does send them via email then they can do something if they havent and used phone verification and what was the initial setup info then they have little chance

That's the normal route. All my email accounts have alternate email addresses that get sent a message if anything untoward happens. I often get them if I log out and back in again, warning me there has been a new log in. I have them set up on 3 different 'gadgets': phone, ipad and laptop.

Keepass is excellent, with clients available for Android as well.
There are online ones such as lastpass, but frankly entrusting all your sensitive passwords to somebody elses computer never did appeal to me.
