As a newbie without a pedal I kinda like the amp control on the parweld torch but I truly hate the heavy/stiff hose. Is it possible to swap it out for a nice Flexi hose like the CK torches?
Yes you can but check connections for compatibility. Torch end is pretty much standard but machine end varies.
Torch end is depending on what size you have, WP9/20 and so on
Starting to think it's maybe just the huge torch and maybe the hose cover too. Keep watching YouTube videos and the CK torch hoses look so much more flexible, similar to my scuba myflex hoses.
You won't get much more flexible hoses than these. The leather cover for the first 1/2m or so is also flexible but the neoprene from there down to the machine connections are not great. I usually get a weldas pigskin cover for my torches and cut the neoprene bit off.
The torch you have is a WP26 size which is quite big but whether you can go smaller or not depends on what you weld. If for example it is mainly 100amp or less then a WP9 would be fine and they are tiny in comparison. I have a WP9 one I use for stainless but also have a WP20 which is a water cooled torch which is the same size as the WP9 but being water cooled it can handle 200Amp AC no problem.
Hopefully be welding all sorts when I get the hang of it but anything big I'll probably revert back to stick. I'm guessing most of the stuff the tig will get used for will be stainless fittings for the boats or smaller repairs I can get into the workshop and put on the bench. Maybe a 17 torch would be better for me to learn with
A WP9 with gas lens would suit you well for that kinda jobs. Here's some examples, all with the 9
1,5 to 1,5 Aluminum. 1,5 to 4mm aluminum diamond plate.
G1/4 SS fitting to 1,5mm SS.
Rated to 125A DC and around 80 on AC but I do run them higher than that on AC. Just buy a few extra heads, they are consumables.
