Parts Washer degreasing fluid......

Right guys, bit of a daft question here.

I recently bought a parts washer from Halfords [for £10 - bargain!!] and need to know what degreaser to use, apparently it needs to be 'electric pump friendly', although the manual is a bit basic/lacking in specifics as usual.

I'm thinking Gunk although I currently have some marine degreaser called Marinol - anyone know if this would be OK to use, I don't want to b*gger it up first go.

Also, what dilution should the fluid be used at?

I simply use paraffin (kerosene) in my parts degreaser......my local garage sells it at the pump (circa 44 pence/litre); but, you can buy prefilled 5 litre containers of paraffin at many petrol-stations, houseware/hardware shops.

The stuff from M Mart is compatible. Not expensive and can be diluted with water. No, things don't go rusty afterwards. it's not bad and dries quickly. Skin friendly so clearly not as effective at neat aviation fuel. But I have recently swapped to Jizer for a bit more Grrr power in cleaning. It's good.

Ive got some horrid dirty paraffin in mine too. The only thing I can add is not to burn the fuel afterwards in the workshop paraffin heater as a disposal method, because it stinks the place out.
I wasnt going for burning the whole drum, I was just a bit low on paraffin for the heater one month you understand

I just got the same one from Halfords,and despite the rubbish instructions,it seems ok for a tenner.
However the pump seems to have no filter on it and it says on it "do not run without water"(or words to that effect) Which has confused me somewhat as i was just about to pour 10 litres of Parrafin in it.

Yeah, that's the bit I wondered about, and why I asked about dilution rates for a degreaser fluid.....

A lot of parts washers use a water soluble solution for H&S reasons, but I find it 'goes off' and stinks.
I use domestic heating oil in mine, about 60p a litre at the moment. I'd use paraffin though if I could find it as cheap as Debs. Wear suitable gloves if you do use a petro-chemical based solvent though, it can be absorbed through the skin and may lead to bladder/prostate/kidney problems later on in life.
