I had a warco style lathe for a while and it looked nice but could not pull the skin of a rice pudding....different league to a boxfordI've a couple of of those cheap tools MGMN2 and 3. they cut very well on my Boxford. I did have a problem with the 3mm blade recently when parting off a piece of toughened 40mm steel, which, after watching the tool closely, I put down to lack of rigidity in the AXA100 piston type QCTP. I bit the bullet and bought the AXA111 wedge type which sorted the problem.
I am reading these posts of intrest. As I will be having a go at parting once I get the correct tool. Is it ok to part from the front post as I have seen a lot of videos with people using rear tool posts to part.

Impressed ..the one i had would never manage that.I tried parting again, went well, no chatter and good chips. Is it the grade of steel EN3, the larger diameter or something in my setup?
Any pictures??Because it is such a critical setup and an often used procedure for production work, it can be handy to have a parting off tool permanently fixed to the cross slide which frees up the compound slide for your other tooling.
Plus of course, it gives you the opportunity to buy another toy![]()
I make my own carbide parting tools cut from a circular saw blade and fit in a holder works a treat on any size lathe
Id like a blade parting tool if it will let me part full depth?
Do you know insert shape code for the ones you recommend? I was looking at the GTN type.
I agree about power, lathe struggles at half speed and need to be geared down, not decied the best way to do it.
