Parkside pmsg 200 a2

hi all

been following forum including how tos for around a year but just joined this morning.

I currently have a parkside flux core welder and also a parkside stick welder

I have been looking a mig set up with gas and was saving for either an Oxford 180 or r tech 181 but they're both pretty big money for me given I only want to weld the odd car repair with it it exhaust arches sills etc

saw this week lidl will be getting in the pmsg 200 a2 this week coming. It can do gas mig and has the euro torch which I know is mentioned on this forum. However bottom end amperage is 50 for mig I believe

Would it do my job for sticking the odd piece back together or should I keep saving?

Welcome to the forum .
I have a rohr with a quoted 50 amp min , and I can weld car body work with it no prob , it was about 200 quid , I also do a lot of welding at a farm and they have an oxford 180 , if you dont have to lift and carry it about its a mighty wee welder and its done most jobs Ive wanted it to do , It didnt like welding an 8mm plate onto the back of the fire we use to heat the garage , but it did it ,,, just went into thermal protect a couple of times ,,, so really there is no answer to your question there at all ... but some food for thought.

No that's helpful especially given you have a rohr with the same quoted minimum amps and find it works ok. Oxford does look great but I'm in Northern Ireland so would need to get one shipped over not to mention its in a completely different price point to the parkside welder and granted presumably in a different league in terms of quality.

Mobility isn't too much of an issue except my shed entrance is raised about a foot off the ground so will need to knock up some sort of a ramp but that would be same for whether I get inverter and gas bottle or transformer and gas bottle I guess

Im in NI too ,,, if your in the Comber area ,, I can get you a go with either the Rohr or the Oxford , or both ,,, and a Fronius too if I can ever sort out the shipping , but thats another tale .

I am from Tyrone in NI too. I have a R Tech Mig180 and Rohr documented on here with a euro torch. Those 2 welders are very similar performance wise.

I also have a Parkside welder as below which I reserve for flux core welding outside. Its a decent welder to - a test gas weld shown below by the parkside




I would prefer simple individual wire speed and power dials. The Parkside is semi synergic which I personally do not like for occasional use.

One thing to note re Amps for car bodywork welding. Don't worry about low setting. Most car welding is done with a series of tacks and I typically run 0.8 wire gas at about 100 - 120 Amps. You need a bit of power for the tacks to "wet in" if that makes sense.

I had actually come across one of your posts on the parkside while researching. Weld looks great compared to anything I could do. Just starting to teach myself over the past year or so and demands of life mean not getting a massive amount of time to do so lol

I'll take a look at your posts of then also

I bought it to do a rally car seat mount set up with , it paid for its self on the first day , so in my mind its now for free ,, I will use it for down and dirty jobs , it welded a very thin car body very well ,, the guy I said I would do the job for said he had a welder that would do the job , but when I turned up it was a nasty welder with two power switches that made up four power settings , non of them suited me at all , but by then I was committed to doing the job and it had to pass scrutineering so as a fast fix I bought the Rohr ,, it did the job very well. Yep only 12months warranty though , but they seem to have a common gas leak inside at the solenoid so a quick look inside to check the connection , and all the wires were tied and the boards [ very few of them ] were secure ,,, a pit of plastic sheet glued to the side so if a board came loose it wont hit the tin ,, and off it went.
I really like the Oxford I use at one place , it seems as tough as old boots , is almost semi synergic and does really nice welds on thin tin

The main thing you will read on here alot is to use gas with MIG. Especially for any car bodywork welding. Which I agree with although gassless MIG does have its place too for thicker material.

When MIG welding anything always practice first on similar gauge steel and adjust the power and speed settings until you get nice beads. This is somewhat tricky on the Parkside semi synergic welders as the instructions are also poor. Hence my comment that a basic 2 dial machine is my personal preference for ease of setup. Such as the Rohr 200amp euro torch welder:

Yeh that's a good way of looking at it as you say if paid for itself already and anything else is a bonus oh yeh think I read on amazon reviews about the leaking solenoid issue.

Great looking weld there! Definitely might consider the rohr in particular might do as Tom says and buy it when I've a whole load of work in mind and then it will pay for itself early one

Sorry guys for the hijack but have a pmsg 200 a2 working fine until it got nodge over on its side didn't fall from a height. The lcd screen went blank won't turn up but have power to the switch on the back as it's lighting up.anuone have this problem before

I have a ct312 multi function welder which has failed but did function well for some time. I have spent some time examining the device with a multi-meter and oscilloscope but without a circuit diagram or block diagram it is impossible to trouble shoot. I consider it is well constructed, but scouring the internet, nobody has any help to give. I notice that there are a considerable number of indicator diodes which I presume help diagnoses. I assume the manufacturing company Pela Tools/Richmond/or Shenzhem wishes to limit the information available for financial reasons but I feel that it...

In addition to those steps, I would suggest also carefully checking the windings and their joints on the ferrite-cored transformers ( usually toroids ). These heavy components are often glued to the PCB, but they can break loose and the wires may fracture.
