I parked in my local village high st and forgot to put the timer disc thingy in the windscreen,Got back to find a ticket under the wiper detailing Reg number,place time etc, However I have noticed in the place that says wardens
signature/initials they have only written their badge number,Does anybody know if this is usual or must they sign or initial properly,Hoping it might save me a few bob!!.
Pesky fine is £50-00, With a 50% discount if you pay within 14 days.

just throw it in the bin and forget it,along with any follow up letters that are sent out.look into it on the web and you will find out all about it.

if it's police or proper council warden i think you might be stuffed, but if its a private one then just ignore it, they are unenforceable.

Agree with Shox Dr, there is possibly a chance of winning a legal battle because it's been completed incorrectly but the time and hassle and there would be a lot of that, is not worth the £25, pay up and take them off your crimbo card list...that will teach them.

There should be details of how to appeal on the ticket. Contact them and state the warden has not filled it in correctly, they should give you an answer quickly and the fine increase might get delayed while you appeal.

I rang the council parking office to say that I did not consider the ticket to be legal because of the number instead of signature,The only answer from the girl was "Oh It's been passed as being ok for the warden to not sign on the ticket". So I have sent them an email Requesting the written paperwork proof of this and by whose authority it was decided, They have acknowledged receipt of my email and will give a reply soon,!!!

Your first appeal will ALWAYS be rejected. The second appeal will be too. You will likely achieve nothing until you get to the adjudicator, when a dodgy ticket will get withdrawn. They rely on the 50% scare factor and initial appeal rejection to ensure you will cough up the extortion without too much fuss. There is a VERY useful site pepipoo.com that will help with a legitimate claim. Only you can decide how much your time is worth, because it will occupy you for a while. I went after Tewkesbury council who issued a ticket for parking against a dropped kerb, even though the Road Traffic Acts allow 20 minutes unloading, which I was clearly doing. That got all the way to a hearing appointment before they withdrew.

Don;t get me wrong. I've fought a few Parking Fines. York City Council on more than a few. And won them all. And all because they were not legal, they will try and scare you, they will try and bluff you, and they will not stop if you reply.

hi maybe worth also looking at your location where ticket was given and check the signs and state of double yellow lines or parking bay markings if these are not up to spec as in the book then the case will be thrown out.

Agree with the above. Wigton town has just painted alod of new double yellows but there is no end lines so no legal

that wont wash they have head cams and they look in your car photograph all round it front and back u can go online and see the evidence yourself . just type in the refrence number and u can view it yourself

Hopefully everyone's aware of this already but just in case a heads up about the 'file in the bin' private parking charge 'notices' aka speculative invoicing. Dunno what the current state of the bill is but there are changes afoot to make the registered keeper liable i.e. these private charges are currently unenforcable because it's a civil contract thing and they don't have a way of idenitfying the driver. The protection of freedoms bill 2011 section 56 would change that. Some choice hits from that google link...

Been watching that one as well, all tied up with the ban on wheel clamping on private land amongst other things, seems to be taking a long time to get passed its been 2 years or so already.

As a comparison: I was delayed by traffic getting to the railway station on route to Paris. Arrived with minutes to go and it was piffing down with rain. Couldn't see a meter, so dumped the car in the park and legged it to the train. Made it by seconds.( not helped by figuring out the auto ticket machines)
Got back in the evening (TGVs are bl++dy fast) and found the expected note on the screen. €11, if paid within 30 days. It is a fixed fine for any parking infringement. Right of appeal all carefully outlined on the slip. Recently gone up to €17 euro. Simple maths made it cheaper to get fined than pay the meter, go figure...
In UK, I would likely have paid more than my old Espace is worth, or walked as it had been crushed. So, there are some advantages to a socialist state.

Also, the delay from traffic was rare. Mostly I cruise at the limit around here, only get delays near the big towns.
