Is there anywhere that can print me a pattern for a 24 " high by 6 " diameter tapered tube ?

I want something I can lay out on a big roll of stainless sheet I have, about 600mm diameter, so I can mark out , cut it up and send the blanks to be rolled.

Hopefully turn it into a dozen narrow boat chimneys.

I have the conecalc app, but the arc is 3000 + mm , and I have no way to draw that.

Would me very easy to do with a peice of string and a scribe then once you have your first one made you can use it as a template as the paper one wont last five mins

Just mark it out on the sheet from scratch.... A metre rule, trammel bar/wooden batten and a pen/scriber is all you need.

I'd spend money just to have one printed, and take the easy way out.

May be 'old-fashioned' but you could do it in less time than it takes to find someone to do it for you......and you learn a new skill.

...or find a local laser cutting service which accepts free-issue material.

Does it taper down to 6" or from 6" down to a smaller measurement ? Sorry if I am missing a measurement somewhere but I'm trying to understand what you are making.

You could do it on Solidworks, but you can also do it on any other 2D CAD package.
Developing a Cone is one of the easiest shapes to do.
Even though I use 2D and 3D I would just mark it out on the sheet like others have said.

another vote for string, or a bit of wood long enough, put screw through one end, drill hole to put sharpie in other end at required distance, screw in a centre pop mark and then draw the line

As andy says, a cone is probably the most simple development there is, if its too big to draw out using the kit you have then draw it one quarter or half size on a board or piece of sheet, then scale it up as you transfer it to the job, easy stuff and just basic sheet metal working, no computer needed.

That and that alone makes me want to learn gas welding. So thanks to you I need a load of new to(y)-ols.

i learnt myself gas welding 40 years ago and got proficient .its verry rewarding and versatile and not hard to learn

When a cone has a narrow taper so a trammel becomes impracticable make a segment pattern.

Make a part pattern, say 1/8th (can be any number)

Divide bottom circumference by 8
Same for top circumference
You will know the height of the cone so cut a template out to these sizes thus /_\ (no symbol for the top)

Lay this on your sheet, scribe round it, roll it over like turning a page in a book.
Keep turning till you have the eight segments. Even out the top and bottom curves using a bent steel rule & scriber & cut out.


To recap:
If your bottom circ was 480mm then template bottom will be 60mm
Say your top was 400 then template top would be 50mm
Lets say height = 600, so you have a template 600 tapering from 60 to 50 that can be rolled over eight times for the full shape.

That's good to know, only problem is I can't see my mum approving of a 3500 C flame in her wooden shed (not that she has a problem with a 6100 C tig arc).

Back to you sardine, If you use string or a huge beam compass to mark out the first one, then use that as a template for the rest of them you will save yourself the money & effort (& frustration) of getting the paper template, ruining it and doing it by hand.
Or what Paul G said, that sounds even easier.
