Pantograph help required,,,,

Hi, I am after building a pantograph copier to use with O/A , I would like it to

be 1-1 ratio so that I can make the "template" full size, had a look on

Youtube etc and not really found anything with any detail, has anybody got

any ideas they would like to share

Lots of engraving machines work like this. Search them for ideas.

You'll have to make sure the joints have some tight tolerances.

I'd whack together a cardboard / steel trial run so I could see how the motion works out. Which part is mounted, which part moves and how in relation to the follower. A simple parallelogram is a good starting point.

For 1-1 you just need to make sure ratio of the 'arms' are the same (follower to pivot / pivot to torch). You'll probably want your templates slightly on the small side, or you could factor in follower width into the arm length ratios. (but the wider the follower, the less detail you transfer in tight corners etc).

I looked at Toms article on weldingWeb, it seems so simple, unfortunatly it didn't show the template etc, if you get permision to forward it I would love to see it.

The only problem been with a traditional Pantograph is it is not designed to take the weight of a torch head

Hi,

I've seen those plans, or something similar, advertised on Ebay.

I found the Australian web-pages a year or so back when I made a pantograph for enlarging picture/drawings, etc. Detailed in the projects forum, I think, when I made it, along with the first project I made, a weathervane.
