Also gone down in many areas - all down to inbalances of freight. A lot cheaper to collect from Scotland than to send TO Scotland. Same with London!
People need to remember 95% of ALL problems are caused by how the stuff is packed. Same goes for parcels.
For a milling machine for example you need a good heavy duty pallet - then line it with ply and bolt down. Lower the knee and if a turret mill drop the head down.
Sadly not many people will go to this kind of trouble.
People ship outboards through us - skeg sticking out over the pallet - then they complain when it gets broken!
Remember pallet networks are general purpose not specialist machinery movers. The drivers are pretty clueless so it is down to the shipper to make sure the pallet is safe.
If everything is prepared ok then it works very well and is far cheaper than driving hundreds of miles.
The USA don't have pallet networks - to move a single pallet from say Miami to another part of Florida - 200 miles - you will pay like $250 - in the UK it would cost you about £35 plus vat.
I used you too when I shipped my Rapidor(I didn't know it was you at that point), fortunately the seller went to the effort of bolting it too a solid pallet and cable tied everything that moved.
It does amazes me what people think is acceptable, I had a morticer shipped from Scotland, sent the guy 4 straps and he only used 2 and just put all the loose bits on the pallet fair play to the couriers involved because it arrived in one piece.

It breaks my heart when I see things like that. And it annoys me when people try to blame us. It always seems to be the courier's fault rather than the person who packed it.
I always say with a parcel - if you can't push it off a desk onto the floor then it isn't packed well enough.
We had someone send a planer thicknesser. I personally phoned the collection point to check it was ok. The bloke said it is on a pallet but doesn't need to be strapped. I explained to the person who booked it that we wouldn't ship it if not strapped. He came back to me a while later saying it is all ok now - good to go. We send the lorry in and it fell off the tail lift. Then he has the cheek to try to sue us!

Yeah loads of people I would not trust to pack a lunch....I bought a replacement Viscous fan for my truck , it was posted in a very flimsy cardboard box full of polystyrene chips the size of fridge held together with about a two feet of selotape with the van loose inside ....

I had the opposite recently, bought a can of oil and they wrapped a single piece of bubblewrap round it then put it in a box at least twice as big, this was the result...
I contacted the seller and pointed out HIS dispatch/packing dept were to blame for the damage, I got the stock reply "it's the couriers fault" so left negative feedback, just got an e-mail asking me to change my feedback.
