I looked across the workshop and couldn’t bring myself to modify this piece of history so decided it has to be a full restoration that she deserves.

I haven’t finished the last 2 projects yet but needed some parts of this to take along to @pressbrake1 scraping course in a weeks time as want to try some dovetails if I get that far in the process.
Some beautiful parts to this machine, just look at the collet arrangement for the y axis (don’t think this is original though).

Here is the number which I think suggests 1931 build

The Gib on this is a solid cast iron dovetail and had a plate on back, now I know why!

Beautiful tapered spindle and bronze bushes that will need scraping back in also

Here is spindle that at a very quick glance looks OK.

I think the v belt pulleys were obviously a later mod as I think original machine would have been flat belt.
It also has the hanging bracket and second stage pulleys so maybe this was original (did they use V belts in the 30’s? Maybe this isn’t a 30’s machine as I’m making that up, based on serial number.
I will strip and clean bits I need for course then get back on with the Alexander Mill as need to mill up my repeat meter for surface plate and many other little bits for this machine.
