I've got a stainless steel fuel tank to paint for an old Vincent motorcycle tank. Some parts need to be a polished finish, parts need painting as per the images attached. Never painted stainless before. I was thinking of polishing all the tank, then masking off the parts that need to remain polished. Then key up the unmasked parts, spray with etch primer then apply base coats as normal.

So the two questions are - 1st) does the above sound sensible, and 2nd) the whole tank needs lacquering- can i lacquer over the polished parts to protect the decals applied to these areas?
Thanks in advance.
