So my boss gets me to build this painting rail to speed up production. I'm no structural engineer by any means, but I'd love input or advice.
So i originally built it to his handcrafted drawing to hold 3 gearboxes ( around 900kg) Now he wants to paint 8 (2400kg) so I am more concerned now. I voiced my opinion but he seems pretty sure ( he is an architect by trade) which of course makes me doubt him.
I have a rough sketch of the design ( apologies for the quality of it) and a photo of it in progress. The gearboxes hang on rollers to move in and out of the paint shed.
Basically its 180mm universal beam, bolts to 3 cross members above, with 2 RHS beams at each end. I am worried how much weight the beam can hold.
Would really appreciate any help.
Thanks, Travis
